Stereotypes haunt us, our own and others’ expectations of us pressure us, and our experiences are burdened by structural discrimination; but giving in to pushback or even burying ourselves in anger is not an option. Instead, we must carve our own path through this mess.
Stories are reflections of life. Like fictional characters, we all have a story of who we really are and what we can do; the problem is that it is often hidden behind stories we think are our own, but which have been shaped by others. Uncovering our true story can awaken the potential for a happier life that feels true to who we are and who we want to be. These stories will change as we change, but what matters is that they are stories that we create, consciously.
Learning Objectives
In this workshop, participants will analyze the story they tell themselves about who they are professionally, and they will shape or re-create that story to protect them from pushback, guide them in future decision-making and set them up for success.
Execution
Most of the workshop will be hands-on, focusing on individual or partner work with group feedback, supplemented by short inputs and discussion. Participants will see themselves as the protagonists of their lives and will embark on a hero’s journey to uncover hidden or buried aspects of their story that are holding them back or are not in alignment with who they want to be. Once they’ve found their story, they will harden it against internal or external pushback.
